Reds Racing Tips 29-02

Morning all,

Narrow profit yesterday and we're on course for a big month as it stands, but there's still today's racing to get through. Three meetings up and down the country and we start off with the tracker horse in the opener at Plumpton. Evening Stanley hasn't been seen for nine months, but ran reasonably well in both his bumpers last season. Now making his hurdles debut for Oliver Sherwood with Leighton Aspell on board, this expensive purchase (60,000 euro's) could well run a big race at a price.

It's one from each meeting today for the three best bets and we stay at Plumpton for their final race for the NAP. Clondaw Bisto was an impressive winner last time out over C&D beating King Uther by eight lenghts, but he was value for more. That one was an impressive 23 length winner yesterday over at Fontwell, so the form has been franked. I don't think the penalty will be any problems for him today and I can see him bolt up.

Next we go to Ayr, where I fancy Irish raider Milan Flyer in the 4.20. The son of Milan was second last time out at Navan after a year off and if the bounce factor isn't a problem, he should give a good account here. He won at the track last year to complete at hattrick so is no stranger to the course. I think he'll be there or thereabouts come the finish.

Finally, we go to Wolverhampton where Les Gar Gan is of interest at the prices. He's racked up a couple of wins and a second so far this winter, but didn't have the best of rides last time out, being very wide all the way round. Shane Kelly takes the ride this time, and I'm hoping for a much improved effort. He's still 2 lbs better of with Le Havresse when beating her by a length on his penultimate outing. Certainly one to keep an eye out for today.

Reds Racing Tips 28-02

Morning all,

An excellent day yesterday, culminating in nearly 25 points profit from eight winners and six EW selections that placed. There was disappointment though, with none of the best three coming home for a profit. The NAP shaped as if something was amiss and didn't run his race, while the NB seemed to run out of steam on the home straight. Finally the 3B was a distant second, having drifted to an EW price, but I'd put him up as a win only, so that doesn't help us! The tracker horses fared better, with two winners and a place.

I've got another five tracker horses going today, including four in a row at Leopardstown. All of them have a pretty good chance. As for the best three, we start those at Leopardstown as well. Fr Humphrey has a great chance in the 4.30. He's won his last two starts and although he's now rated a full sixteen lbs higher than before those wins, he's still open to further improvement. He's got the exciting young Jack Kennedy on board and he's been making waves this season. The selection seemed to have plenty in hand when winning by four lengths last time out. That run came after a break, so he does go well fresh and I expect a big run today.

We go over to Southwell next, where we go to obstacles for a change. I'm interested in Mount Shamsan in the 4.10. He's not been impressive over hurdles so far, but there was some hint of a promise there. He grabbed a win on the flat in October and a few of those have ran well. I'm hoping that a first time outing in handicap company could improve his efforts and he shows up well here.

Finally in the closing bumper at Southwell, Bella Girino makes appeal on paper. The Yeats filly is well-related to a couple of winners, like Theo's Charm and Dan Skelton's yard usually have their runners ready on debut. Bridget Andrews takes five lbs off to add to the selections age and sex allowance and that could well make the difference today.

Reds Racing Tips 27-02

Evening all,

Dreadful day on Friday, with again a lot of win only bets drifting and placing. That cost us thirty points for the day, but the blog still has a profit of 75 points for the month.

Saturday is a busy day with plenty of decent races. Five tracker horses are lined up to go and they should have a fighting chance. The Adonis at Kempton should be a cracking race, with highly fancied Gibralfaro taking on big buy Zubayr in what will no doubt shape the Triumph market. At a big price, Southfield Vic will hopefully run a big race returned over hurdles. He's been a beaten favourite over fences three times, but was in terrific form over hurdles lasy year and hopefully the return to smaller obstacles can see some revival. Others worth mentioning are Portrait King in the Eider and Theatre Guide in the BetBright Chase. The former won this in 2012 and he is a dour stayer who will certainly see out this trip. Brian Hughes is on board and he's a cracking jockey around the Northern tracks and should be good value here. The latter drops back down from graded company, having finished behind Smad Place twice, but he's a strong stayer and he could well run a big race in this company.

The NAP is Bun Doran in the 3.25 at Newcastle. He was very impressive in dire conditions at Haydock and with Davy Russell booked, he should run a big race. He made his hurdles debut in a very strong race, finishing fourth behind three subsequent winners and improved on that to win the Haydock race. The step up in trip should be no problem considering the way he saw out his race last time and he could be an exciting one for the future.

The NB comes from Navan. Eiri Na Casca fell when beaten last time out, but he might've run on for a place. But the run before that he won well, staying on strongly to beat a subsequent winner in Finea. If he's none the worse for his fall on that occasion, he could have another big run in him and with Sean Flanagan on board he should have an excellent chance.

Finally, a speculative one from the last at Chepstow. Geordie Des Champs is a son of Robin Des Champs, the sire of Vautour amongst others. David Mullins rides four for Rebecca Curtis, including O'Faolains Boy and this one. He was bought for 68,000 euro's as a three your old and well related on the Dams side. There's some more experiences runners in this field, but hopefully the selection can give a good account first time out.

Reds Racing Tips 26-02

Morning all,

A marginal loss for the day yesterday and it was a very frustrating day, with quite a few selections drifting to an E/W price and placing despite having been win only prices when I'd put them up. The day was nearly a complete disaster, but a 12/1 winner over at Thurles pulled me out of a hole to make it a bit less of a frustrating day.

On with today and decent cards all 'round. We'll start with a cracker of a race to finish off the day at Lingfield and I've gone for Kalamata as the NAP. She was impressive in beating Schoolboy Error over this distance at Kempton last time out, but hasn't been unduly punished in the weights for that and can step up again to beat some well fancied opponents here for the in-form Roger Varian.

Exeter is up next and I fancy Triple Chief to follow up on his success last time out at Plumpton. He's not penalised for that win and I rate Ciaran Gethings as a young jockey. He could well notch up another here today.

We go to Warwick for the last selection and I feel Lamanver Odessey could well out run her odds of 11/1. Nico de Boinville takes the ride for Tom Lacey and the trainer has been doing well in bumpers lately. Her Dam was a winner over both hurdles and fences and she's also had bumper winning sister.

Reds Racing Tips 25-02

Morning all,

Decent day yesterday with another ten points of profit secured, even with Ludlow getting abandoned. That meant on NAP or 3B, but the NB won after drifting out to 9/2 so a good day for the best three in that sense. The tracker horse also won.

Today, I have three tracker horses and I think all three have a great chance of winning. The NAP runs in the second at Sedgefield. Rosquero was fortunate to win last time at Newcastle, but the form got a boost when Retrieve the Stick won earlier this week. He's rated four pounds higher today, but that might not be enough to stop him. The same jockey is on board as for his win last time and hopefully he can do the business again for us.

Next we go to Thurles where Our Duke is also one of my tracker horses. It's a cracking race with plenty of form on offer, but I think Jessica Harrington's six year old has the most potential of these. He's already won over this distance when beating Pylonthepressure at Leopardstown and beat another subsequent winner in De Plotting Shed on his bumper debut. As said this is a really tough race, but I feel this one has plenty of potential to improve.

Finally, we go to Huntingdon where Here I Am is one to look out for. A winner over C&D last time out after a break, he comes here fresh again. He has to cope with an eight lbs rise in the ratings, but he's more straightforward than the likes of Vazaro Delafayette and I fancy him to get the better of that opponent.

Reds Racing Tips 24-02

Evening all,

a decent enough day on Tuesday sees us back in positive territory with just over eight points profit and a winning NB at 9/2. The NAP could only managed second and the 3B was well down the field, so it wasn't all sunshine and roses, but still.

A good card at Doncaster for Wednesday and a decent one at Ludlow too, so plenty for us jumps enthausiasts to get stuck into and the AW isn't too bad either. We start off at Donny where I have one tracker horse running in Fingerontheswitch. He won at Worcester in October before finishing a decent fourth to Unowhatimeanharry at Cheltenham, but then disappointed on his latest start at the same venue over slightly further. Noel Fehily takes the ride again (having been on board at Worcester) and hopefully that can spark some winning form.

From there we head over to Ludlow where Thoonavolla is the NAP. He ran reasonably well in points over Ireland and the UK before finishing a good second at Leicester to Truckers Highway. He gets in with a really low weight compared to some of his rivals and he could well make that count if he's in similar form. Adam Wedge is a good jockey and I think the step up in trip will suit this horse.

Next, we go to Kempton where I think it's Lutine Charlie's time for a win. He's getting closer and closer, only denied a nose last time and although it's been a while since he's got his head in front, he's clearly in good heart at this time. He has gone up another four lbs, so you have to consider that, but I think he can finally break his dry spell here.

Finally Trapper Peak at Ludlow should have more to come over fences. He was second at Fakenham in January on his last start for Caroline Bailey, behind Cotillion, who has won again since then and had another subsequent winner behind that day. He could only manage fourth on his debut for his new yard, but ran reasonably well and could improve for that. He emptied quickly on that occasion and the step back in trip could help him to see out the race better.

Red Racing Tips 23-02

Morning all,

Not the best of days yesterday, a loss of twelve points means we drop below the 100 points profit mark for the month. The best three didn't fare much better with a pulled up, fourth and ninth as their results. Let's hope for better today.

Three meetings and we start off with two tracker horses, both running at Taunton. Robinesse ran well behind Jessber's Dream last time out and that one has notched up a win in a grade two since then. She should go well here today. The race after that, we have Royal Vacation. He was well beaten on his last two starts, by Yanworth and Champers on Ice and he could be an interesting prospect now handicapping.

We stay at Taunton for the NAP, Oscar Jane. She's the only one with C&D form, having won here twice already this season, the last of those by eight lengths on her previous start. David Noonan stays on board and a seven lbs hike in the weights doesn't seem enough to stop her in this company.

The NB comes from Wetherby and I'm a big fan of Malcolm Jefferson's yard. Since the 31st of January he has saddled seven runners and they've all finished first or second. Retrieve the Stick is an attractive proposition on that basis. She won at Sedgefield in November, before disappointing at Kelso the next time. But she bounced back to be second at Newcastle and if she's sharpened up her jumping she should be a player again today.

Finally, I think Whisky Marmalade could well run a big race in the 3.30 at Wolverhampton. It's a pretty open race, but with C&D form to her name and not so much exposure over this distance, she could defy a four lbs rise in the weights to follow up.

Reds Racing Tips 22-02

Morning all,

Back from an enforced break due to illness, making me miss most of the weekend's action. So no review or look back to the day before today, but straight into today's action.

The NAP today runs at the only jumps meeting of the day at Carlisle where Alto Des Mottes should have a great chance. He's a progressive type who only narrowly missed out in a gruelling race at Catterick last time out. He won well before that at Newcastle and in getting six lbs from Warrantor, he should have a great chance with Bryan Hughes on board.

We stay at Carlisle for the Next Best in the 4.10. Abbey Storm hasn't been seen for a long time and makes his first start for Micky Hammond since leaving Donald McCain's yard. I've noted before how well Paul & Clare Rooney's runners seem to be doing on their first start for their new yards and if the trend holds true then the selection could well run a big race under Brian Harding.

Finally we go to Wolverhampton where I'm going to chance Judicial in the 4.20. A winner over C&D and still relatively unexposed, this four year old has got a couple of lengths to make up on Royal Birth, but comes here with a swing in the weights.

Reds Racing Tips 18-02

Morning all,

First of all, gutting news about Faugheen with regards to the Champion Hurdle, but it does blow the race wide open. It seems to be a bad time for injuries at the moment, with the likes of Ar Mad and Killultagh Vic also ruled out of late. Let's hope that's it for the injury front and all the others get to the festival safe and sound.

On to yesterday's efforts then and once again, there was a small profit to be had. It was less than five points by the end of the day, but profit is profit and I'll take that. The NAP finished second to a horse I had anticipated as a non-runner (having run the previous day), so that was galling, but the NB was a winner at 9/2 to make up for that. Finally, the third best was denied a place by a head, having gone off at 14/1.

For today, we have five meetings once again as the weather seems to relent, although Leicester is holding an inspection this morning, so keep that in mind. If Leicester does go ahead, the NAP will be Prideofthecastle. David Pipe's gelding won on chase debut at this track at the start of the month, being left well clear when his competitor fell, but he was cruising at that point and may well have more to come. David Noonan is excellent value for his five lbs and that gives him a massive advantage over his main rival Stiletto.

Carrigdhoun has been slipping down the weights of late and is getting to a decent mark for Maurice Barnes. Daragh Bourke takes another five off. He split a pair of subsequent winners when he was second at Newcastle and his only effort over this C&D was a winning one. He could well run a good race, despite carrying top weight.

Finally, we go to Chelmsford where My Target could well bounce back after a disappointing run last time out. The race wasn't run to suit that time and he was cramped for room in the finish. Adam Kirby takes the ride this time and although he's got some fierce competition on his plate, he's got an excellent draw and could well be overlooked in the betting.

Reds Racing Tips 17-02

Evening all,

A profitable day overall, but not the greatest on the best bets again. The Nap was bitterly disappointing and although the NB ran well, he was still a distant second.

For tomorrow, we have a bumper daywith five meetings, but all eyes will be on the opener at Punchestown. Annie Power makes her long awaited return and this run will no doubt be crucial to her Festival target.

Down to the best three bets than and Oscar Lateen is the NAP. He was impressive winning last time out at Newcastle, beating a horse that won twice subsequently. He's been given a seven lbs raise in the weights for that, but that should not be a problem. Danny Cook is a jockey in great form and with him doing the steering, this one should go close

Next we go to Lingfield's opener, where Inaam is the selection. Richard Fahey won this last year with Birkdale Boy and he has a good chance here again today. The selection was hampered last time out at Lingfield, finishing down the field, but was good value for his win at Wolverhampton before that. Fahey's stable is in decent form and the selection could well be value for his price.

Finally, Only Ten Per Cent seems a big price at 10/1 for the 7.50 at Kempton. He's finished behind of a few of the re-opposing horses, but he's being eased down the weights, while the others are going up. He was away slowly last time and a sharper start this time could well see him hit the frame. At 10/1 it's certainly a price worth chancing each way.

Reds Racing Tips 16-02

Evening all,

It's the school holidays, so I'll be off out with the family this week. Might miss a blog here and there as a result. Managed to have a quick look through tomorrow's cards though and although these are with no great certainty, they should have a chance.

Only two meetings tomorrow and I'm putting my eggs in the basket for The Firm in a hot race at Southwell. Plenty of these have a chance, but The Firm seemed to have something in hand last time and Rob Hornby is in good form and claims a valuable three lbs off. I also think My Little Cracker could well run a cracker at Ayr. She disappointed on hurdles debut last time, but I'm hoping she can bounce back to form over this shorter trip in slightly less tough conditions.

Reds Racing Tips 14-02

Morning all,

A small profit to end the day yesterday to keep us on track for the month. The best three disappointed though. The 3rd best was never in it, the NAP was a very distant second and the NB got a poor ride. Let's hope for better today

Three meetings, although Exeter is in the balance with them inspecting this morning. As such I've only gone for two best selections.

Black Hercules is the NAP today and although it's a decent race he runs it, I really think Mullins' charge should be able to do the business today. He's the current favourite for the National Hunt Chase and could well add to his credentials for that race here.

Mazovian is the NB. He's been running well over the jumps and won on his last run on the level. All five of his AW wins have come on this course and I think he'll be able to add a sixth today.

Reds Racing Tips 13-02

Morning all,

A terrible day yesterday, but hoping to make amends with the races today. It's not all great standard, which is no surprise this close to the festival.

Best three bets for today are as follows. Dawson City is the NAP at Warwick. He's been in my tracker for a while and should have a big performance in him over fences somewhere. It's a small field and that may well help him. He looked ready to win two races ago when unseating and then came second last time out.

NB is Cartographic at Wolverhampton. He couldn't land short odds last time out, but here he should be able to make the swing in the weights count over Black Minstrel, especially if the first time hood brings some improvement

The 3B is Argocat, making his debut for Nicky Henderson. He was a decent chaser in Ireland and now with one of the top trainers in England, running of a lower hurdles mark, he should have a great chance

Reds Racing Tips 12-02

Morning all,

Another winning NAP yesterday as Baoulet Delaroque managed to hold off Value At Risk at Huntingdon, but the NB and the 3B couldn't follow up. But we managed to come out of the day with another profit, so no complaints from me.

Bangor is off today, so that leaves us with two jumps meetings in the afternoon and two all-weather in the evevening.

We start at Wetherby today for the NAP. King of the Wolds has been running well of late, but found the extra distance a bit too far in heavy ground at Haydock last time out. Now back to three miles, he could bounce back for Malcolm Jefferson. The yard continues to be in good shape and despite top weight, the selection should make a bold bid here.

Next we go to Wolverhampton where Dougan is the NB in the 7.45. It's a hot race, with a few last time out winners and plenty of C&D form. The selection has won in three of his five starts, although his only appearance here was a losing one, finishing second to the re-opposing My Target. Adam Kirby is back on board for this race though and he's already won twice on this horse.

Finally we go for a speculative one in the last race at Kempton. Le Dauphin is well related, out of Robin Des Champs (stallion of Vautour amongst others) and an unraced sister to Denman. That makes him a half-brother to the useful Polly Peachum. Trainer Nicky Henderson has a pretty decent record in bumpers and if this one is anything as good as either of his relations, he could go far. As I said, it's one for a bit of speculation, but at the prices, it's worth an each way poke.

Weekend Preview Newbury

Weekend Preview - Newbury
Expected going: Hurdles: Heavy - soft in places, Chase: Soft-heavy in places
By @Redgameracer

2.25 Denman Chase (Class 1)
2m 7f 86 y

Frankly, I'm not sure how a race named after an all-time great can attract such dross for a field. No offence to the horses in question, but it's not exactly a stellar renewal of this race. But we'll do our best to spy something that is value.

Rocky Creek (13/8) sits at the top of the market for Paul Nicholls. He's got a decent record on the expected going, with three wins from six. He was hampered on a few occasions last time out in the Grand Sefton before being pulled up, but managed a second to Don Cossack before that.

Ballynagour (2/1) is next for David Pipe. He's been well behind on all three of his last few starts and never really got going in the King George last time out. He is the highest rated horse in the line-up, but the form would suggest his best days are behind him now.

More interesting is Houblon Des Obeaux (7/2). Venetia Williams' charge has been running reasonably well in big field handicaps, including fourth in the BetFred Classic Chase at Warwick behind Russe Blanc. He was well beaten that day, but this could be the sort of race to get him back in contention. It's not a handicap, so he won't be able to make the most of his falling mark, but he makes more appeal to me than the front two.

The Giant Bolster is 14/1 for David Bridgewater and I think the good old plodder could have a better chance than that here. One thing we do know is that he stays and despite a struggling fourth to Smad Place in the BetBright Chase at Cheltenham, this is an easier task. He doesn't have the best record around Newbury, which would be a concern, but most times that has been in tougher races. He did finish second in this race three years ago and although arguably not the same horse, I'd give him a chance.

Bob Ford (14/1) is the same price and I can't explain that. His record of late is one of either pulling up, falling or winning in heavy at Ffos Las. While the ground is expected to be heavy, I can't imagine it'll be Ffos Las like bottomless. He was travelling well at Chepstow when he came down, so maybe he can improve, but I'd be hesitant to back a horse with such a record.

That leaves us with Splash of Ginge (16/1) and Midnight Appeal (66/1). The former wasn't doing too badly when unseating in the Hennessy, but subsequently disappointed in the Peter Marsh. The latter seems to be out of his depth even in this race.

It's a shame there's only seven runners, because that means there's only two places to aim for, but I think The Giant Bolster at 14/1 EW and Houblon Des Obeaux at 7/2 win only are the best bets in this ultimately disappointing race.

3.00 The Game Spirit Chase (Grade 2)
2m 92y

A cracking race is in store for us in the Game Spirit Chase. Named after the succesful racehorse owned by the Queen Mother, it was first run in 1953, but has only been a graded race since 1992. Eight runners are set to line up, including the second from 2014, Dodging Bullets. Last year's Champion Chase winner makes his belated seasonal reappearance here for Paul Nicholls, who has won this race seven times since the turn of the century. Nicky Henderson has two wins to his name.

We'll start with Dodging Bullets (8/13). The winner of last year's Champion Chase has struggled with injury this season and although Harry Derham has been reporting he's ready to go on his blog, you'd have to wonder what sort of impact this long a lay-off has had on the horse. On ratings, he should be the best horse in the race and if he's fully tuned up, he should be the one to beat.

Nicky Henderson could be three handed, but a lot of that depends on Warwick going ahead. If it does, then L'Ami Serge (6/1) is bound to go there to run in the Kingmaker, but if it doesn't, he could well be the one to take on Dodging Bullets. He's been impressive in heavy conditions, but admittedly hasn't beaten much and a step up in open company could be a tough ask at this stage. Henderson thinks a lot of him and tough conditions could see him to good effect. He's certainly Henderson's best chance, as the other two runners have question marks about them. Josses Hill (8/1) has shown some indifferent jumping of late, most recently when he clouted one in the Tingle Creek. He'll need to show significant improvement on that effort to compete here, even if he is the second highest rated horse in the race. Captain Conan (11/2) made his reappearance after nearly two years off in the Champion Hurdle trial at Haydock. That was in absolutely bottomless conditions and that may well have taken a chunk out of him. You'd imagine that Henderson won't want him to have a hard race after that. On his highest rating, he would have a decent chance, but you'd have to wonder about his well being.

Kerry Lee is a trainer in great form in her first full year and she has two entered. Top Gamble (5/1) looks the best chance of those two, having been placed in two handicaps at Newbury & Cheltenham at the end of last year. They were both admirable attempts, but he has sixteen pounds to find with Dodging Bullets on official ratings. Grey Gold (10/1) is Lee's other runner and although he's a winner over C&D in November, this is different gravy to that run. The eleven year old was pulled up either side of that winning run and I don't think he'll get involved here.

That leaves us with the two outsiders in the field, Willow's Saviour (20/1) and Un Beau Roman (66/1). The former won on Chase debut this year, beating the progressive Aso by a neck before being well down the field in Ar Mad's destruction job in the Henry VIII Novices'. That is not all together bad form, but this is a step up into open company and he's not as good as L'Ami Serge in that regard. Un Beau Roman is a former Willie Mullins horse, but despite a win at Kempton has not lived up to some of the achievements of his former stable mates.

In closing, Dodging Bullets is clearly the one to beat, but it will be an interesting race if Warwick gets abandoned and L'Ami Serge turns up here instead. His price will drop instantly if that does happen and you'd have to wonder if there's any value left by the time that happens. If Warwick goes ahead then you'd have to think 'Dodge' should be able to win this, even without being fully tuned up.

3.35 Betfair Hurdle (Grade 3)
2m 69y

The Betfair Hurdle is our final feature race from Newbury. A prize pot of just shy of 90 grand will await the winner of this Grade 3 Handicap and we have a big field set to line up and try to follow in the footsteps of Violet Dancer, last year's winner.

Let's look into the trends to see if we can find some pointers before we analyse the contestants. First of all, young horses have a good record, with the last nine races being won by five or six year olds. Horses with a weight lower than 11-02 do best, with only one runner winning with a higher weight in the last ten runnings. All of the last five were also 10-08 or higher. No top weight has won in that time. Ratings wise, the trends favour those running off 131 or higher (eight winners), with the only two exceptions being trained by Gary Moore. Neither Moore nor other multiple winner Nicky Henderson has entries though, so perhaps it favours to look to some of the recent placers such as Phillip Hobbs or David Pipe (five places each) or one times winners Paul Nicholls and Jonjo O'Neill. The Irish have a poor record and Irish Champion trainer Willie Mullins has seen his last eleven runners unplaced. Nine out of ten winners finished in the front three on their previous start.

So in summary, we want a five or six year old, racing between 10-08 and 11-02, rated 131 or higher and trained by Hobbs, Pipe, Nicholls or O'Neill, who finished in the front three last time out.

If we go by those criteria, we find three horses that fit. Modus (7/1), Sternrubin (9/1) and Mad Jack Mytton (28/1). The first, trained by Paul Nicholls has long been a top prospect, having finished second to Moon Racer in the very hot Champion Bumper from last year. That was followed by a third in the bumper at Punchestown before JP McManus bought him and sent him to Nicholls. He won his first two races over hurdles for Nicholls, before disappointing at Taunton just before the New Year, managing only third. Regular jockey Barry Geraghty has been jocked off to go and ride Blazer for Willie Mullins and that is a concern.

Sternrubin has the services of Richard Johnson for Phillip Hobbs. He has won both his races this season, although the latter of those was in a dead heat with Jolly's Cracked It. He's a tough sort and although he's never encountered conditions as they are expected to be, he is probably good enough to deal with them.

Mad Jack Mytton is a big price. He disappointed in the Greatwood Hurdle before bouncing back with a second place in a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham. Josh Moore takes the place of Richard Johnson, who had ridden him on all three starts so far this season and it will be interesting to see how he gets on with the horse. The O'Neill yard hasn't been in fantastic form, but perhaps a change in fortune is coming.

Leaving the stats behind for a minute, we switch to the new market leader Blazer (4/1). He retains the services of Geraghty after his win last weekend and is turned out quickly again under a penalty. He ticks some of the boxes in that he's rated 131, racing with a low weight of only 10-04 and a five year old who's won last time out. He's also trained by Willie Mullins, which in this case is a black mark in his book. It's a stat bound to get busted though and this one certainly has a leading chance to make that happen.

War Sound (15/2) has two ticks against him, in being too old (seven) and to heavy (11-07). That said, Ciaran Gethings claims five off and was also on board for this horse's last two wins last spring. He is making his seasonal reappearance and that is a concern in a hot race like this so I'm happy to swerve this one.

Affaire D'honneur (10/1) is a potential improver for Harry Whittington and Gavin Sheehan. He ran well enough on debut behind Zulu Oscar at Kempton to finish second, but couldn't quite challenge for victory going down to the line. He's a pretty unexposed one and another who comes in off a low weight.

Three horses are available at 16/1, Zarib, Forest Bihan and Starchitect. I can't see why the former is to be honest. Yes, he comes here with a low weight and Bridget Andrews claims five more off, but his latest form isn't exactly impressive enough for me to consider. He has won over C&D and perhaps that is the attraction. Forest Bihan ticks more boxes and also has the in form Danny Cook on board. He was only just headed last time out at Catterick and ran well in his races before that. But of the three, Starchitect makes the most appeal. It's his first run for David Pipe since leaving Donald McCain's yard and the Rooney's have had some first time out winners with their horses that they moved. Tom Scudamore takes the ride and I think this could be an outsider that has a chance.

The only one that stands out for me at a bigger price is Dicosimo (20/1) for Willie Mullins, but the question remains if he's going to come over for this or not. He won well last time out at Limerick, but he has an awful lot of weight to shoulder in this race.

With such a big field, I'm happy to take two here to give me a run for my money. I'll have a small EW stake on Mad Jack Mytton (28/1), purely on the basis of the stats and I'll also chance Starchitect (16/1) with some each way money in the hope that the Rooney's can continue their good form with first time outers since leaving McCain.
